After the devastation brought by Hurricane Beryl, the Grenadine islands, including Canouan, have shown remarkable resilience. One of the most anticipated milestones in the island's recovery is the reopening of its premier luxury resorts—Mandarin Oriental Canouan and Soho Beach House Canouan. This marks a significant boost not only for the local tourism industry but for the island’s economy and community as a whole.
A New Chapter in Canouan’s Recovery
Hurricane Beryl was a powerful storm that swept through the southeastern Caribbean, leaving behind a trail of destruction on islands like Union Island and Carriacou. But despite the widespread damage, Canouan is bouncing back with the reopening of two of its top-tier resorts.
The Canouan Estate Resort & Villas and Soho Beach House Canouan will welcome guests starting October 10, and, perhaps most excitingly, the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Canouan will be fully operational again by mid-November. A spokesperson for Mandarin Oriental shared that the reopening represents more than just a return to business—it is a symbol of Canouan’s strength and commitment to building back stronger.
Resilient Infrastructure and Future Preparedness
Batu Erem, CEO of the Canouan Group, praised the quick recovery, emphasizing the island's robust infrastructure and the dedication of the teams involved. "The speed of the recovery shows the strength of the infrastructure and the unwavering dedication of all those involved," he stated.
But the focus isn’t only on recovery. In response to the storm’s impact, the Canouan Group has announced the establishment of the Canouan Residence Fund. This fund will receive a portion of future guest revenues and will be dedicated to enhancing the island’s resilience to future natural disasters. The Mandarin Oriental spokesperson explained, "We are committed to not only providing world-class experiences for our guests but also protecting our community and environment for the future."
Available Services Before the Grand Reopenings
While the official reopening dates are just around the corner, several amenities have already been made available to guests. Visitors can enjoy dining at select restaurants, work out in the gyms, use the tennis courts, and make use of the kids' club on the island. These early openings hint at the luxurious experiences to come once the full reopening is complete.
More Than Just Canouan: Supporting Neighboring Islands
While Canouan is making a strong comeback, neighboring islands like Union Island, Petite Martinique, and Carriacou in Grenada are still in various stages of recovery.
What to Expect From Canouan’s Luxury Resorts
Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat at the Canouan Estate Resort & Villas, the stylish ambiance of Soho Beach House Canouan, or the unparalleled elegance of Mandarin Oriental Canouan, the island is set to once again offer world-class luxury. Each resort promises not only top-notch service but a renewed commitment to protecting the beautiful surroundings and ensuring a memorable experience for every visitor.
